Utility Management
Improving grid management with CRex™ explainable AI
Our CRex platform provides the situational intelligence to improve decisions for managing power grids, water supply systems, and other utility grids.
Our CRex platform provides the situational intelligence to improve decisions for managing power grids, water supply systems, and other utility grids.
CRex enabled managers of North America’s bulk transmission system to assess real-time electric power transmission situations on a GIS map, improving operational decisions and post-event analysis.
Transmission control centers are overwhelmed with unlinked data from multiple sources, including smart sensors. This makes it difficult to quickly assess and respond to critical situations. Information is located in siloed databases with disparate formats, duplications, errors, and unexpected delays. Data from third-party systems that provide supervisory control, advanced distribution management, and asset maintenance must be acquired and integrated to enable comprehensive situational awareness.
To assist a large water utility, CRex used its cognitive reasoning to model, simulate, forecast and generate a grid pumping schedule across 300 wells and 22 purification facilities, taking into account many situational factors, constraints and regulations. Above, the CRex dashboard displaying well pumping requirements during forecasted high-demand situation.
Meeting the needs of water utility customers is increasingly difficult with stressed water grids, decreasing supplies and exponentially growing demand. Optimizing water resources is complicated by many factors, including grid network system dynamics and massive amounts of sensor data, complicated by missing, delayed and corrupted measurements. Further, increased regulatory oversight imposes rigorous compliance standards and pumping constraints.
